How to handle corrections in video after the shooting is over?

If we hire a video production agency in Dubai to shoot outdoor videos involving anchors and a production crew, how should we handle situations where errors or issues are identified in the footage after filming is completed? Who would be responsible for the additional costs of reshooting, including the anchor, crew, and location expenses? Can we demand the video production agency to reshoot in their own expense?

One of the most important aspects of managing video production is ensuring that mistakes are identified and corrected at the right time. At SpiderWorks, where we have a video production team in Dubai and regularly conduct outdoor shoots involving anchors, camera crews, and other production staff, we have learned that correcting mistakes during the shoot itself is always the most practical and cost-effective approach.

At SpiderWorks, we generally recommend that a representative from the client’s team be present at the shooting location. This person can verify the script, check the anchor’s delivery, confirm the accuracy of the information being communicated, and ensure that all the required shots are captured correctly. If there are any mistakes in the dialogue, pronunciation, presentation, or execution, they can be identified and corrected immediately, while the crew, anchor, equipment, and location are still available.

SpiderWorks' video production team regularly conduct shoots in Dubai for our clients, including Gadiyar, CDA, Kiltons, and World Star. A representative from these clients is always present at the shooting location, and they review the raw videos right after the shoot.

However, problems are sometimes identified only after the shooting is completed, particularly during editing or when the client reviews the recorded footage. At this stage, the nature of the correction becomes important. Minor issues, such as editing errors, incorrect graphics, or certain audio problems, can often be rectified during post-production without requiring another shoot.

Video Correction After Shoot is Over

The situation is different when the correction requires the anchor to deliver a dialogue again, a scene to be recorded differently, or additional footage to be captured at the original location. Such corrections may require us to arrange the anchor, production crew, equipment, transportation, and location all over again. For outdoor shoots in Dubai, this can involve considerable additional time and expense.

Therefore, our general approach is that any corrections requiring a reshoot after the shooting has been completed will be at the client’s expense, particularly when the client’s representative had the opportunity to review and approve the shots at the location. This ensures that the client understands the financial implications of requesting changes after the production team has completed its work.

Of course, this principle should be distinguished from mistakes or deficiencies attributable to the production agency itself, such as failing to follow the approved script or not capturing an agreed shot. Such issues should be addressed in accordance with the agreed contract and responsibility for the error.

Recently, in one of our shoots, the anchor accidentally showed an action which was inappropriate for the video. This was identified only after the final editing was done and delivered to the client. The client wanted us to change this, and a reshoot was not possible in the same location. But we were able to use AI and make changes to the particular scene, which lasted only 2 seconds.

Ultimately, the best way to avoid unnecessary reshooting costs is to have an authorised client representative present during production, review important takes carefully, and confirm that all required footage has been captured before the crew leaves the location. A little additional attention during the shoot can save both time and money and help ensure a smoother video production process.
